It is the start of the new year and New Year, New Adventures. I have the minivan, which has taken us on a few tent adventures in 2022. Now it is time to think about 2023 van camping trips. So I wanted to share how I look for campgrounds and campsites. Here are a couple steps I take in making reservations for campgrounds.
There are a few requirements I have when choosing a campground and campsite.
- Dog friendly
- Decent cell phone reception
- Trash bins are available
- Fires allowed (make sure to check in with hosts upon arrival as this may change depending on the weather)
- Depending on my length of stay, it may be important to have access to water
There are apps, websites, and good old Google where you can do your research to find the ideal campground/campsite. I use the app The Dryt. This app allows me to set filters to the requirements I have when choosing a campground. Plus there is a map where you can search areas if you have a general destination in mind. Once I find a campground that I am interested in, I will Google Search images and watch videos on YouTube to get an idea of the campground. There may also be videos that show specific sites which can be helpful. If it’s a brand new campground to me, I’ll also search for campsites that other campers recommend.
The good thing about The Dryt is that the app or website will tell you what site/app you need to book the reservations. Remember that many campgrounds open their reservations six months before you plan the trip. For example, I will reserve my campsite in December 2022 if I want to book a trip for June 2023. You’ll schedule your next trip on the booking site or app, and Happy Camping!
I also have the following sites bookmarked when searching for camping trips
